Coffee from Papua New Guinea comes from the eastern part of the world's second-largest island (located north of eastern Australia). Cultivation began in 1927 with seeds from the famous Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee (Arabica Blue Mountain variety), which were smuggled from the then English Colony of Jamaica, much to the annoyance of the colonial power.

It grows in the Morobe Highlands under ideal climate conditions on weathered, volcanic, sea-facing, very nutrient-rich soils at altitudes of 1,100 m to 1,800 m. Papua New Guinea coffee combines the vivacious fruity aroma and subtle freshness of Latin American coffee (Costa Rica, Galapagos, Guatemala) with the typical fullness and complex depth of Indonesian coffee (Java).
